Detroit Sportsmen's Congress (DSC) operates a comprehensive archery facility located at 49800 Dequindre Road in Shelby Township, Michigan, situated on 106 acres between M-59 and 23 Mile Road. Founded in 1936 and established at its current location since 1948, DSC has maintained archery programs continuously since 1948 and continues to expand its offerings as it approaches its 80th anniversary.
The facility features multiple specialized ranges designed to accommodate archers of all skill levels and disciplines. The centerpiece is a 30-target outdoor 3D animal range with varying shot distances and elevations, which accepts target points only. For traditional target practice, DSC maintains a six-lane outdoor practice range with shooting lines at 20, 30, and 40 yards. The indoor facility includes a ten-lane practice range with a new ten-yard extension that accommodates shots up to 30 yards, making it suitable for instruction, league shooting, and J.O.A.D. (Junior Olympic Archery Development) indoor practice. The facility also includes a dedicated broadhead practice range and an outdoor Professional Archery range used for J.O.A.D. outdoor tournaments and distance practice.
DSC offers archery instruction through a ten-week indoor education course held from January through March, designed to establish proper form, technique, and safe equipment use. The facility hosts competitive opportunities including an eight-week outdoor 3D competition league from April through June with a handicap format, team banquets, and prizes for all participants. A fall outdoor league runs from July through September, and the outdoor 3D course opens to members and the public from May through the last regular weekend before archery deer season, typically operating 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on most Sundays. J.O.A.D. archery programs provide instruction and practice in target archery through two eight-week sessions running May through September, introducing participants to competitive tournament archery. The facility also hosts an annual "Toys for Tots" archery 3D shoot on the first Sunday in December, where participants bring unwrapped toys for children and shoot the 30-target indoor 3D range for just one dollar.
Membership and guest rates are structured to encourage participation at all levels. DSC members enjoy flat rates of $7.00 for 3D range and outdoor practice, or $7.00 per hour for indoor range use. Junior members (those under 18) pay $5.00, while student members between 18 and 21 with current student identification also pay $7.00. Adult guests are charged $20.00 flat rate, junior guests $8.00 (indoor $10.00), and members of the Michigan Bow Hunters Association receive discounted guest rates of $19.00 ($9.00 indoor for juniors). DSC maintains affiliations with the Michigan Bow Hunters Association, USA Archery, Michigan Archery Association, and the Tri-County Archery Association, positioning itself as part of Michigan's broader archery community.
Beyond archery, the facility supports the broader shooting sports community with educational programs, a clubhouse with food service, and a pro shop stocked with archery and shooting supplies. The welcoming community atmosphere emphasizes safety education and inclusive programming for all ages and skill levels.
